Dogs play an important role in our lives. Their loyal, caring, kind and playful nature has been a help to millions of people during this difficult pandemic. At KONG Box we want to put a spotlight on the powerful role dogs have played in helping individuals and families get through this difficult time.

For the month of May we are launching our #KONGBoxCares initiative. We will be running a four week contest, with a new contest each week where we will be rewarding people for sharing their experiences, tips, photos and encouragement with others. We believe this will be a great help to the KONG Box community and will highlight how our dogs truly are humanity’s best friend!

Here's how it works:

First and foremost, get out there (or stay in) and show us what playtime with your dog looks like using KONG Box toys —feel free to get creative!

Take a selfie playing with your four-legged friend (or snap a few pics of just your dog).

Submit your dog playtime pics & tips through our social media channels (Facebook & Instagram), using hashtag #KONGBoxCares. Seriously, who doesn’t love pictures of cute dogs?

Each Monday wait to see if you’re one of the selected winners to score some serious KONG Box loot! Winners are awarded (are you ready for this?) ONE FREE YEAR! How’s that for an incentive to get moving with your pup?

Great Outdoor Activities for Dogs to Jumpstart Spring

While getting outside can be a little tricky these days due to COVID-19, there are still great ways that you and your furry friend can enjoy the great outdoors. Always remember to abide by social distancing best practices and avoid crowded places whenever possible. With a little creativity, though, you and your dog can still enjoy the warming weather!

Fetch
While it’s one of the most simple forms of playtime, it’s one that never gets old! Be it a frisbee or one of the toys that come with your customized KONG Box subscription, fetch is an activity you two can take anywhere.

Agility Training
While certain breeds, like border collies, flourish in agility training, all dogs can benefit from this obstacle course-like setting using dog playing equipment that challenges mental and physical health. Along with developing your dog’s social skills, you’ll also be giving their self-confidence a boost. You’ll both stay fit and have a bonding experience to boot. Just make sure your dog’s physical and mental health is in check before signing up for a course. As an added bonus, this activity can be easily created in a backyard to avoid close contact with others during the current stay-at-home mandate.

Biking/Walking/Hiking/Jogging
Take your pooch with you on your outdoor workout! Dogs love to run alongside their owners! Make sure you take into consideration your hound’s build, breed, and current state of health. For example, short-nosed breeds may have problems breathing, older dogs may have hip issues, etc. Keep your dog leashed and be sure to bring along a collapsible water bowl for when your furball gets thirsty. Do your best to avoid overly crowded trails during this time. Now is the best time to explore a new area with less foot traffic!

Games to Play
With Your Dog Inside

Let’s face it, unfortunately, options are limited these days to get outside due to COVID-19. Finding creative ways to keep your dog happy and entertained indoors will be key as we navigate our way back to normalcy. No need to fear, though, indoor play can be just as fun and effective as long as you’re prepared.

Tug of War
Playing with tug toys can help your dog build confidence, provide mental and physical stimulation, and help expel pent-up energy. Look for dog tug toys like a classic rope, rubber handle tug toy, and stuffed toys for smaller dogs with a lighter “tug.” Keep in mind that while tug toys won’t make your dog aggressive, they can exasperate combative tendencies if they are already present, so opt for a different toy if that’s the case.

Hall Ball
While it’s likely that you don’t have space to effectively play fetch indoors, hall ball is another great bonding activity that keeps your dog moving. Simply toss a small bouncing ball down a long hall where your dog can safely run. Once the ball is returned to you, repeat!

Customized KONG Box
When dogs are indoors, behavioral issues like excessive chewing or boredom can surface if they are not properly stimulated. KONG Box takes the guesswork out of toy shopping because we only send the right toys for your dog. All you need to do is give us a little information about your pooch and we’ll send you a customized box of toys that correspond to your dog’s preferred play style, age, and size.
